Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes the MTB Strength Training System different than anything else previously available to mountain bikers?

A: The MTB Strength Training System is the only strength and conditioning program available to them that is designed by an avid mountain biker using his extensive education in strength training tactics with nothing but their needs in mind. It is completely free of bodybuilding influences, using none of the crutches and tactics that bodybuilding uses in order to simply build large muscles. It is also free of road riding influences, taking the more physical nature of off road riding into account.

Q: Why would a mountain biker be interested in a strength and conditioning program?

A: Most mountain bikers appreciate the importance of upgrades, however they almost always think of bike parts when considering what to upgrade. While new bike parts are certainly important, you have to realize that these upgrades are only going to be appreciated on the bikes they are put on and the types of trails they are intended for. For example, lighter wheels will certainly help you climb and accelerate faster but they will not hold up well on rough, rocky trails.

Now consider what an upgrade to the engine that drives the bike will do – increased performance on every bike you throw a leg over and every trail you ride. Sticking with the previously mentioned example, getting stronger will also help you climb and accelerate faster but it will also help you handle rough, rocky trails better as well. Mountain bikers everywhere are limiting their performance and fun by not focusing on upgrading their "engine" as well as their bikes.

Q: Is the MTB Strength Training System only for riders looking to enhance their performance?

A: While performance enhancement is definitely a big draw for many riders, many others have found that the injury rehab/ prevention aspects to be a big plus as well. One of the main tenants of the program is "if you are hurt then it doesn’t matter how fit you are". This is why flexibility, dynamic mobility and recovery techniques are so prominent in the program. Many riders have found that nagging injuries that have plagued them for a long time, such as sore lower backs and aching knees, clear up after incorporating these cutting edge strategies into their training regimen. This means that they are able to ride as hard as they like and as often as they like instead of being at the mercy of how they feel the day after a ride.

Q: Is the MTB Strength Training System only for serious mountain bikers?

A: While serious riders who hit the trail 3-4 times a week will definitely benefit greatly, so will more casual mountain bikers. Because of the specific nature of the program it really helps to maintain and even increase riding performance for those riders who can not hit the trail as often as they would like. Instead of constantly feeling like they are trying to get into riding shape they will be in riding shape whenever they get a chance to ride.
